EMBARK up? (bark up...)

Peter Forster made an interesting pun in his post “close knit/nit family.” He remarked something about “embarking up the wrong tree” as a play on “barking up the wrong tree.”
I was curious to see whether anyone on the web had used that phrase, and it seems they have not. Further, I hardly found any citings of the usage “embark up” which would have been inspired by that phrase. As this usage does not seem proper, I don’t know what else to make of it…
