"compute" for "commute"

I stumbled on this one online:

Robert Olen Butler who won the Pulitzer Prize for his collection of short stories A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain worked full time and had a difficult home life so he wrote everyday on the train computing into New York City.

Googling “a long compute” yielded a few examples, for instance:

Because of the generous community donations we receive two vans, we were able to donate one of them to Latrice and Ricky to share to help get them to and from a long compute to work everyday.

I work and it is a long compute to the barn. the earliest I can get on is 7 PM.

Individuals who have a long compute to work might find it very helpful to dictate letters while driving.

If you have a long compute in your car turn this into your lecture room.

It was also close to Walmart and the beach, but it was a long compute to downtown.

Eggcorn, mere misspelling, or…? You be the judge. I don’t see any obvious meaning connection.

Re: "compute" for "commute"

Okay, a possible “compute << commute” meaning connection has occurred to me after all. “Compute” could be thought of as figuring out the amount of time it takes to commute. So maybe “compute” for “commute” is really an eggcorn for some folks.
