Today I stumbled upon this in my reading:
David also took his mission to care on his father’s legacy.
The Marvel Wiki
A little googling found a few more examples, such as:
He is a true blessing and I will care on his legacy of living life to the fullest.
He will always be part of us. We’ll care on his legacy and that will make him immortal.
We the Company Versatile Music Group onbehalf of Mrs. Barbara Hunt and The Legacy of Rev. Howard “SLIM” Hunt thanks yu in advance for helping us care on the legacy of Rev. Hunt…
Even though there aren’t a whole lot of examples, this seems like a real eggcorn to me. Both the pronunciation similarity and the meaning connection between care on and carry on are obvious. A new eggcorn, sez I!
