net <> knit

Her mom yelled from her bedroom, netting a sweater “Ok, hey where dad is? “She yelled back

Why you not doing something useful, netting some socks?

I’m sure I’ve heard, and maybe seen it work the other way, too, but don’t have clear examples documented. I did find this, but it’s likely purposeful.

We’re building a nice little team, so you can expect our posts, patterns and general activity on the social knitwork to grow

Anyhow, knitting forms a network of sorts, and the eggcorning possibilities are pretty strong, but so are the pronunciation-error, sound-spelling and other possibilities. It is impressive how many formations on one side have a legitimate counterpart on the other (e.g. netting needles, knitwork meaning ‘knitted handworkˊ).

Re: net <> knit

I love it. A natural. I’m suprised it hasn’t been seen before. There are more than a hundred hits for a close net family, which makes me think of purse seines.

Yes, I thought it was rather a low-hanger. I like your purse seine.
