"pond off" for pawned off

The nice entry today by TootsNYC about put apond induces me to submit a related strange use of pond. It seems to have been born from a mishearing of “pawned off on” as pond off on. There are also many examples of the related pound off on.

See also the posts presenting pawn off/palm off, as well as palm/pawn off on elsewhere on this forum.

First, pond as past participle:

Car buyer’s guide:
The idea of a computer controlled fuel system has been pond off on the un-washed masses as the saviour of the environment ,it is not and was not and never will be
(http://reviews.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Guid … 0003195109)

Pallet recycling:
Granted some are rebuilt and put back into industry but a lot of them are thrown away. Or pond off on who ever will haul them away.

Next, infinitive:

slr video:
to introduce such a cam that would mean one less sale of their light sucking 24p, 1/3 chip, cameras they continue to pond off on us.
(http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/archive/index … 67350.html)

Incoherent partisan blog:
And to think these are the freaks they are desperately attempting to pond off on this country as if they don’t have far too many of them that have slid through the cracks already. Guleannie (or what ever), is going to be a real treat for us, provided we refuse to disallow them to hand pick our candidate as they are now doing.

The next examples go the full route and put pond into the past tense as ponded.

Blog rant:
you frauds…magnified that world wide, with toxic loans you basically PONDED OFF on other countries…

What is the true religion:
lucifer(the devil) is in complete control of this planet, including everything we think is the truth! The Jews of the old testamnet never spoke Hebrew…hebrew is a cabbalistic creation that they ponded off on us…the name Jesus is really a compound of zeus the greek supreme god-and if you study greek history you’ll realize that zeus is lucifer.

And pounded off on. Not too sure what this might signify—measured out to? Or delivered brutally?

Dance forum:
Our teacher quit. Now, we don’t know who’s going to teach us. We were pounded off ON our teacher to begin with because we were such slow learners, by the very people who are the only ones left TO teach us.

Nutrition rant:
I know more about how the scientific process works than you do, Buddy! And, I am passing moral judgement on research being pounded off on the trusting public as science. It is pure crap!

Re: "pond off" for pawned off

It seems to me that “pawned off” is itself an eggcorn, a mishearing of “palmed off” —sold as genuine, substituted for a real thing by sleight of hand.

Sweet! I love to find I’ve been labouring under a missed conception.
