decanner < decanter

The alchemical “decant” puts in an appearance now and then in chemistry contexts. It’s the winebibbers, though, who have managed to keep the word current.

Your Certificate of Oenology is automatically revoked if you tell your guests that you have “decanned the red wine.”

Auction ad: “chrystal decanner and wine glasses”

Clown collectables bulletin board post: “i’m looking to see what my Emmitt Kelly whiskey decanner is worth”

Even chemistry teachers are confused:Decan the liquid from the solid.”
