Put out some fielders (feelers)

Sporting metaphors abound so it is no great surprise that this interpretation should appear. What is surprising is that I can find only one example, though I confess I haven’t spent much time searching.

I’ve been out of the industry a lil while, noone comes to mind but I will put out some fielders and keep my ears open! Hope you had a great .

Re: Put out some fielders (feelers)

Nice. I was able to find about a half dozen examples by looking for permutations of the phrase “put out fielders,” “put fielders out,” etc. Apparently this word switch made it to TV recently: http://www.trashtalktv.com/06/25/prince … /264060/4/

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
