Quite surprised we hadn’t caught this yet (or else I’ve messed up searching again ;p ). There seem to be lots of them around. Many of course are jocular, purposeful usages, but plenty seem to stem from confusion or false confidence that one knows the phrase perfectly well (the truest kind of eggcornhood).
So Buster Bronco better indeed guard his loins around the Dogs this year. And Idaho should be favored to take down Texas State.

Not terribly surprisingly, you can guard up your loins as well as just guarding them.

From that last quote and a number of others, the perps clearly are thinking of guarding, protecting defensively, providing security, and they are choosing to use the phrase in contexts where that meaning is called for.
