just read this in a student essay: “it was simply a fragment of his imagination….” sounds eggcornish to me…..and the word “figment” really is odd after all, and maybe this is the only expression that we normally see it in?

I think it was in Art Linkletter’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things†that the observation was made that Adam and Eve wore figments.
