Geared up the loins

I am reminded of exhortations like ‘Get your arse in gear’ and… I can’t think of another, but I’m sure there’s more out there. Gird , and loins for that matter, is far from common currency and ripe for reinterpretation.

I geared up my loins. I knew what I had to do. I had to confess. I had to turn my self in.

... Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki are some of the leading car makers who have geared up their loins to overturn those personalities who were graded …

Also, self has geared up her loins, stiffened her spine, and agreed to see …

I agree, Tocayo. First classic.
.
Peter, isn’t the other phrase you are looking for (or at least one of them) simply “gear up to [do something]”?

Re: Geared up the loins

David (T), yes, that would do nicely, though I did have a feeling that there was another involving the never regions. And had I realised earlier I’d have attached this to your ‘guarding the loins’ of last November, which I’ve only just found.

Re: Geared up the loins

Here’s another variation:

Then came the day when I really didn’t want to connect and he was there seated on the ground. I sighed and went to girdle my loins but remembered the buddhist monk, so I turned, went to the crossing, crossed the road…
blog

I had to Gurdjieff-girdle my loins, sizable adrenal pools of energy and subtle-body soul resources to take Mom to the hospital whilst running my seven ring circus and become her nurse in the recovery phase when she returned home a week later.
another blog

now it seems i’m calm even though a part of me is a lil scared sometimes i girdle my loins n get on wit it…
yet another blog

If only there was an ominous soundtrack playing every time I approached one of these messes in my world I would be cued to girdle my loins with my armor, reach for a sword, and commence battle just in time for the rousing trumpets to announce the hero has arrived.
you guessed it—another blog

The eggcornish imagery is pretty clear.

Movie review

One from New Joisey.

In his book Lisey’s Story, Stephen King coins one of the best acronyms of all time: SOWISA. Strap On Whenever It Seems Appropriate. It means to take charge. To gird your learns and jump into the fray. To get your guns on and be ready to shoot whatever moves.

Re: Geared up the loins

That curdles my socks! Shocking, it is. (Fortunately or un-so, the wikipedia page has apparently been taken down, but I thought of those guys too.)

Okay, but only if it keeps that mincer at bay:

To prepare oneself. Grind up your loins and face the situation boldly.

We must grind up the loins of our Minds, to be sober , to watch unto prayer.
