otherways

I have known two French people resident in the UK who always said “otherways” for “otherwise”. A straighforward vocalisation? I’m fairly sure I’ve also heard this from a native English speaker, though I can’t remember where.

Now, following a bit of dictionary searching online, I get the feeling that “otherwise” may be a very long-established eggcorn for “otherways”! Nice.

I’m new to this so maybe someone has suggested this already and I just haven’t found it in the database.

Otherways is apparently also a 17th century dish of peas and bacon.
