"shunt" for "shut"

I stumbled upon this one while researching a different one:

my mind is so full all the time that sometimes I think I just shunt down and don’t want to think or hear.
mental illness discussion

A web search on “shunt down” yielded hundreds of examples, virtually all of them from discussions of technological subjects like computers, etc. My technological knowledge being pretty much nil, I couldn’t distinguish with much certainty how many were really substitutions as opposed to “shunt down” possibly being an actual term, but I’m sure some were. One definition of “shunt” is “to move someone or something to a different place or position, especially to avoid dealing with them”. I believe this is close enough in meaning to “shut” that we can consider “shunt” for “shut”, in some instances, to be an eggcorn.

Looks like yr commoner garden anticipation error. Here’re some more.

If the fuel pressure is too high, you need to shuff off the engine and remove the fuel return line

In cases where severe jamming of the conveyor occurred, it was sometimes necessary to shun down the entire pump

I would be the first to welcome them in (anything to shup up the ridiculous “English-only” nutjobs in this nation).

My computer takes a long time to shown down as well.

Re: "shunt" for "shut"

Note that the fact that something could be an anticipation error (or, for that matter, a perseveration error) doesn’t necessarily mean it is one. The existence of a plausible eggcornish meaning connection decreases the likelihood that that is the case.
