"Civilware" for silverware

Another prize eggcorn taken from the NPR eggcorn list. Civilware is so much more descriptive than silverware. A deft rearrangement of the phonetics, and suddenly we have risen above the caveman’s manners. We have have the elegance and discretion of civilware.

“Okay, are you sure your alright over there over that hot stove?” I asked and gathered the civilware and tablecloth… I could feel the heat rushing to my cheeks as I set the civilware into their places

I sat down and watch as Mackenzie taght me all the civilware to eat with,
fanfic

I needed 2 plates, 1 bowl, 1 spoon, 1 fork, 1 knife, 1 chair, and the table itself. Then I needed to duplicate the setting which included the plates, the bowl, and the civilware.

Only one hit for the civilwear.

“Will you set the civilwear, Vanessa, while I get the plates?”

I agree, an excellent switch. Not very common, unfortunately.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
