Re: Doubled eggs for deviled eggs

Hmmm…could be an eggcorn. The perps may be thinking that cutting the eggs in half to stuff them sort of “doubles” the egg count.

Re: Doubled eggs for deviled eggs

Eggcorn or no, “doubled eggs” is a fairly common term. It is a Christian euphemistic replacement, along with “angel eggs,” for “deviled eggs.” See Tim Stewart’s description of the term. Stewart, by the way, has quite an interesting web list of Evangelical-oriented Christian slang. “Sword drill,” “life verse,” “I see that hand,” etc.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Ha! Good catch, kem! It’s been 46 years since I was a conservative Christian, so my memory of it is (thankfully) dim, but I’m pretty sure we called them “deviled eggs”. Maybe some Christians have gotten even prissier in the last few decades?
