Eggcorns Based on Mispronounced Words?

The example I’m thinking of is “hyperbowl.” I’m assuming people spell it that way because they heard it pronounced that way, so it’s either a double-rat’s ass eggcorn or just a mispronounced word squared.

Any rate, I’m sure there are others, but I can’t think of any right now.

Am I not using search correctly? Entering keyword “hyperbowl” produced no hits.

I double checked, and you’re right, Paul; “hyperbowl” apparently has never been mentioned on this site. So it looks like you’re doing the search properly.

I mentioned the thread I linked to above because you mentioned pronunciation as an issue, and I thought you’d find the linked thread interesting. But that thread is not really about the issue you mentioned (spelling words wrong due to a sort of misconstrual of the pronunciation), so maybe it was off-topic.

Re: Eggcorns Based on Mispronounced Words?

I enjoyed the thread, though. There are words I will not say because I fear I’ll pronounce them wrong. They are nearly all French.
