A stopple like tactics

Surely not an eggcorn because it doesn’t make sense, but amusing.

Spotted in the comments to a post about an ACLU lawyer being grilled by a Customs & Border Protection agent (link: https://www.aclu.org/blog/speak-freely/ … -work-aclu):

“Wow, smacks heavily up Orwellian and a stopple like tactics, I get what you and your associates do, hopefully our nation will not stay divided but I fear this is the most divisive time either since the Civil War or the civil rights movement.”

I shared this with a few friends on Facebook, and one speculated it may be a voice recognition glitch? Do people dictate verbal comments to stories on web sites now? Oh brave new world, if so.

Re: A stopple like tactics

A voice recognition glitch or a cupertino seems unlikely. Not many dictionary databases would have the rare word “stopple.” If anything, “estoppel” might be inserted (just tried this with “OK Google” voice recognition on my Android device, and this is what I got).

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
