bless << >> bliss

Here are a few of many examples:

Really watch the commercials; they don’t even bother with the benefits. They just show someone in a state of bless, or somehow being desired with the product.
homespun philosophy

When Esther Hicks is channeling Abraham she describes the feeling as “having knowledge of everything,” and being in a state of bless because of it.
Greek Orthodox site

This state of bless (to them) is disrupted when their respective parents—Robert (Richard Jenkins) and Nancy (Mary Steenburgen)—fall in love and get married.
movie review

God bliss you and your marriage.
Yahoo Answers

may god bliss you Bonnie sorry i could not be there for you love bud
online obit

Your tip helped me alot. God bliss you.
computer blog

And here’s an interesting variation:

I send boundless blissings to all.
New Age blog

Blissings Christopher, kudos man thats sweet!!
raw foods network

Peace, blissings, much respect to everyone I met in Costa Rica!
DJ’s site

Many are probably puns (especially “blissings”?), but some smell eggcornish to me. I think we have a new (to this forum) eggcorn—a bidirectional one with variations!

Re: bless << >> bliss

A confusion with deep roots. The OED says

The meaning of bliss and that of bless have mutually influenced each other since an early period…; confusion of spelling is frequent from the time of Wyclif to the 17th cent. Hence the gradual tendency to withdraw bliss from earthly ‘blitheness’ to the beatitude of the blessed in heaven, or that which is likened to it.

Re: bless << >> bliss

Bliss is blitheness – nice. I wonder if blitheness is ever confused with blindness. Most uses of blithely, as in blithely unaware, unconscious, ignoring, and so on, cannot be distinguished easily from blindly. The following may be a phrase that is eggcornish, to blindly go about your business.

I had no idea I had a heart condition and was blindly going about my business

Re: bless << >> bliss

Here’s another variation I recently stumbled upon:

I’m blessing out with. . . [followed by a photo of the CD he’s listening to]
music FB group

We’re blessing out with a hard cider and Airplane!
tweet

And she says alright and begins issuing me a head-scratching. Presently I’m blessing out, and I have her to thank for it.
