'hit of the moment' for 'heat of the moment'

Things done or said in the heat of the moment are carried out in a state of over-excitement, anger, frustration or something similar. The hit of the moment seems to describe a similar state of thoughtlessness, and could be a sporting metaphor of some sort, or have pugilistic or drug misuse connotations.

No, you start another issue, Charles Motlohi and Mambushu ’s fight happened in the hit of the moment, nothing serious.

Tackles are made in the hit of the moment, you can’t avoid to misplace it sometimes.

Make sure any MPESA transaction is from MPESA- believe me in the hit of the moment you may not notice this, and whats more there might be …

Re: 'hit of the moment' for 'heat of the moment'

The suddenness of a hit, especially if it comes from something inanimate like a moment, fits with the idea of arbitrary suddenness coupled with forceful inevitability that fits these contecks. In Spanish one can say something happened “de golpe” ‘from a blow’. In Nawatl a stem probably having to do with lightning “striking” (as we say in English) is used as an intensifier/suddenifier, to similar effect.
