Younger children often have difficulty in distinguishing Ls and Rs. I recall hearing “Melory, melory, melory” when my daughter sang ‘Row, Row Row Your Boat’ so I gently suggested the word was merrily, at which she crossly responded, “But I said melory!” Perhaps this remains a difficulty for some people, who then wander inadvertently into eggorn territory. Something colorating with another thing suggests chromatic leakage, a metaphoric tinting effect from one to the other perhaps?
In fact, the coloration between both is so strong, that exercise on its own may be enough to drastically diminish the symptoms of anxiety.
Considering the high coloration between economic growth and population growth, we can also expect GDP to slow along with it.
Interesting developments however spin that there could be coloration between diarrhea outbreaks and climate change.
Directly proportional coloration between people who drowned after falling out of a fishing boat and marriage rates in Kentucky.

I have no trouble believing this one. I actually think I have heard it.

we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

Great minds think a lot. I think maybe that one has been crayoned in before.

Me too, and we must have seen it as well, and now we know where.
Sorry David B; too often my fresh eggcorns I find have already been laid, and equally often from a Birdic source. At least this draws attention to the original which, surprisingly, drew no comment at the time.

Another example of a more common word being substituted for a less common one, and of a sensory word being substituted for a more abstract one.
