Bipolar opposite

Someone in Miami tweeted a photo of the ocean receding prior to the arrival of Hurricane Irma. The accompanying text: “This blows my mind that Bayshore looks like this!! To think that in several hours it’s going to be the bi polar opposite.”

My son saw the tweet and forwarded it to me. I think it’s a great find.

Re: Bipolar opposite

I like it too. Instead of the bi referring to two poles, it seems to be used as an intensifier making a bipolar opposite twice as polar as a mere polar opposite. It reminds me of an acquaintance who accused me of performing a 360 degree turn on a particular issue. I readily agreed of course.
Lots of examples.

Earlier this week, I argued that we should collapse the ideas that a “God of Peace ” is the bipolar opposite of a “God of War.”

Sam is the perfect sucker—unworldly, completely clueless and the bipolar opposite of Nina’s dark, haunted worldliness.

Re: Bipolar opposite

Is bipolar in this context something like “insane” > “extreme, over-the-top”?

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)

Re: Bipolar opposite

By the way, Twitter searches for “bi polar opposite” and “bipolar opposite” turn up plenty of examples.
