"gang ho" for "gung ho"

Gung ho is one of the phrases that entered English from contacts made in the Pacific theatre during WWII. It is said to mean “work together” in Chinese. Gang, on the other hand, goes back to O.E. and beyond to PIE, where it meant “to step” and was related to “to go”, and eventually it signified “go together” and then “a group”. Working together all gang ho makes perfect sense.

even democrat icon hilary clinton “had to” go all gang-ho patriotic in celebration of her re-election.

Re: "gang ho" for "gung ho"

Years ago I ran across gun-ho ironically in the context “she’s a gun-ho earth-firster”. “Gang ho” is a worthy companion piece.

Thankfully it hasn’t come to that yet in the climate wars. I’ve got my cultural eye peeled for the next wave of youth revolt after reading Kem’s book, and gun-toting vegans would fit the bill.

Here’s an evolution of a different sort, involving the insertion of movement into gung ho*, as gung-go.
