"Plummeting the depths" for "Plumbing the depths"

I heard this on the radio a few minutes ago. I googled it, and found a number of examples, but the meaning had been re-shaped. These seem to intend “plumb the depths”, though:

Seems like a plausible eggcorn. We plumb the depths by plummeting a plumb line.
