"Soul popper" for soap opera

As a first look at some of the great eggcorns that turned up on the NPR eggcorn list that Kem reported on in June, I looked for evidence of the super soul popper for soap opera. The soaps do tend to get overwrought. This one is a definite keeper.

film review: The movie talks about nothing!Nothing happens in this “Tv film”.It is like a soul popper,a chapter of Days of our lives.

Fave TV show: WWE is like a soul popper. Its a continous soul popper week after week that never ends. People argue and settle their disputes in the ring .

quad forum: I like this thread, its very informative… -but when you guys take it too serious everything starts turning into a soul popper…

Motor forum: wow, how did this turn into a soul popper, i jus asked for prices on the merchandise

Yahoo questions: I use to love wrestling but stopped at 13 its so stupid now its not even like that classic hardcore wrestling its a like a soul popper.

Here is the stepping stone to the soul popper. Something to do with blowing and popping bubbles, maybe.

I met this promising girl that said ” all I want is for the brides to experience what I wished for since I was a little girl” , for my wedding to be perfect. I didn’t realize nowadays everybody plays a soap popper role.

OP: Does this forum remind you of the Jerry Springer Show?
R: Yeah it sure does, you could make a soap popper out of it.thats the real truth.

To top it off its more like a soap popper, the show seems too stretched out it should of ended couple seasons back.

Thought ‘soap operas’ were called soap poppers until I was 16. No one ever corrected me. I guess because I would say it really fast.

Trials are set to determine what truth is and not played as a soap popper for another episode to come about or to be looked at as being funny in any way whatsoever.

Re: "Soul popper" for soap opera

When i was a kid everyone in my family called them “soap boppers”. It wasn’t an eggcorn for us, though; we knew they were “soap operas” but enjoyed the whimsical pronunciation. Although it is possible that it started with an eggcorn, perhaps from some little kid in our family.

Re: "Soul popper" for soap opera

I wonder how many of those who say “soap opera” think that the “soap” part is based on “soapy” (i.e., sentimental, mawkish, suave)? Do soap manufacturers still advertise on afternoon TV?

Procter & Gamble makes so many products, that people wouldn’t think of them as a soap company now.
