I’ve gone looking for ‘roof flights’ for ‘roof lights’ . It pops up in a number of planning applications across the UK so might have been written by one person though I doubt it. It’s also elsewhere.
” construction of single storey side and rear extensions with new roof to whole bungalow with room in roof and roof-flights”
Why? Perhaps because the ones on pitched roofs look like steps when open, perhaps it’s something to do with escape.

The transition—for the written error, not the sound error—may be aided by the tendency to write “roof lights” as one word: “rooflights.” Then the “f” gets doubled when the word is divided.
