It is more likely than not that, if you have an inkling feeling of a mold infestation in your home, for your gut instincts to be correct.
Probably a blend of an inkling with a/that sinking feeling and a/that nagging feeling (and maybe other kinds of feelings as well). It is certainly analyzable as a malapropism ( inkling < sinking, nagging ) and there is certainly semantic overlap involved (a less than clear sense of unease/darkness of ink = darkness of prospects?), offering some eggcornish motivation. But maybe more a sort of smushy spot than a good strong eggcorn, for all that.

Interesting. I had not thought of checking the etymology of “inkling.” To my surprise, it has nothing to do with “ink.” Live and learn (lately, though, I’ve been doing a lot more living than learning).
“Inkling” seems to be a noun backformation of the verb “to inkle” (to whisper, hint at). To use it as an adjective, however, in the (redundant) “an inkling feeling” is blatantly extralexical, suggesting the influence of an outside idiom, such as “sinking feeling.”
Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Didn’t think of it before, but a niggling feeling is likely involved in there somewhere as well.
