We have seen a number of substitutions for moot herein—mute and mood and even moo . Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this one:

I think this is a dandy eggcorn, partly because mote could convey smallness to the point of insignificance, and partly because the near-synonymity of mote and point reinforces the “rightness” of it. I found lots more examples, such as:

I came upon another instance of a tiny little mote point.
