the Rictor scale

Wakes eggcornish associations in my mind (with “rictus”, stretching and straining, that sort of thing), though it quite possibly did not for the authors.

There was a major earthquake in Oaxaca near the club med resort of Huatulco on the coast. 7.4 was the first reading of the Rictor scale. Very few deaths recorded so far.

The terrible tragedy (the massive earthquake) measuring 7.6 on the rictor scale with its epicenter in the Hindukush mountain exhibited all three characteristics.

We conclude that the magnitude of the earthquake on the rictor scale has no corralation with the prior and post amplitudes on the graph.

Others apparently use it consciously (or maybe not) with a meaning having to do with sexual attractiveness ― there is an urban dictionary entry for it.

Re: the Rictor scale

With a little slurring of that vowel we arrive at Rector, who can be either an Anglican or Catholic priest or alternatively may be in charge of a university; just the sort of knowledgeable character needed to keep track of the lineaments of the planet’s deck-shuffling habits.

The Rector’s Scale is 9.1 or may be 9.2. Date has not cleared yet but it may occur in Between 7th of April to 15th April.

Measuring 9.0 on the Rector scale, the catastrophic quake just off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture produced a massive tsunami that damaged or wiped out dozens …

The Chile Earthquake was the world’s largest earthquake in history, at a magnitude of 9.5 on the Rector’s Scale. It happened on May 22nd, 1960.

One is called “The Landers Quake” that was 7.6 on the rectors scale that was Bear Mountain Quake that was 6.5.

The situation exculated and the female owner was off the rector scale, pointing and raising her voice in front of all diners,in the cramped dining room!!!

Re: the Rictor scale

Beware of exculating situations in the presence of the rector and other diners. (I liked your deck-shuffling metaphor, Peter.)
.
My dad used to have a story about some nuns who decided to take a fling at the race course (to increase the offerings for the poor, of course), and put their money on a horse named Benedictus. The bookies who took the money decided the nuns must know something supernatural was about to occur, so they invested all their cash on the horse as well. When he lost, the nuns were consoled by the piety-inducing effect on the bookies, one of whom was heard to say to the other, “Holy Moses, Marcus, Benedictus rectus.”
