I don’t think we’ve noted on this Forum the transformation of C.B.s, the acronym for the U.S. Navy’s “construction battalion,” into “seabees.” Presumably a spelling-out of the acronym would have been “ceebees.” The “sea” spelling is the eggcornical (?) influence of the word “sea,” motivated by the ocean context of the group.
