begrating

(Related to the recent discovery of B-rating , in the “letterate eggcorns” thread:)

look at how he begrated his wife on the home video.

He’s used to always being begrated.

They’re constantly begrating each other.

Seems to me that a number of lexemes may have entered in to this lovely word, perhaps including belittled, berated, degraded, downgraded, denigrated (?), derided (?), begrudged (?), grated on your nerves (?), begrimed , and perhaps other things.
.
The near-synonymy of rating and grading is quite possibly involved.

Re: begrating

To me, a blend of “berated” and “degrated” seems the most likely.

Re: begrating

“Degrated” ― likely enough! (Any takers for D-grading out there, to go with the B-grading or rating or whatever?)

Re: begrating

The alternative spelling of degreated has genuine eggcornish pretensions, perhaps.

We humans have degreated each and every corner of our mother earth.

I can’t believe this website has degreated to joksters and nobody willing to give good advise.

He’d been degreated and looked down upon by great band stallions such as Warlord and Sundari, brutes of old lands in his past.

Loved the nameplate, clip selection the coloring was meh it really degreated thr quality!

Re: begrating

Thumbs up! (I like the joksters giving advise, too―do they advice us to b-ware jokstraps?)

Re: begrating

“Degreated” for “degraded.” Pretty good.

Re: begrating

It’s a measure of Peter Forster’s generosity of spirit that he would knowingly bury a fine eggcorn candidate like “degreated” down here under “Slips.” I hope someone remembers this come the annual roundup. (Assuming you guys are still doing the annual roundup….)

Re: begrating

Pat! You’re alive! I did post something querying your mysterious disappearance, but ominously no response so I removed it feeling I’d violated some unwritten unspoken knowledge all but me possessed. Your unexpected persistence in existing has made my weekend, and that hasn’t even started yet!
I must disagree though about burying this eggcorn. First David, then Kem, then David again lovingly laid a ripe plum in my path. To have picked it up, scampered off and presented as my own would have been shameful. I find the most enjoyable eggcorns come from this mutual stimulation and ownership too should be mutual and I’ve always assumed that notion wasn’t mine alone.
