It occurs too many times to be just an accident, I think. The meanings match reasonably well: sprinting implies the speed that often accompanies (and may be necessary to) the secrecy more plainly designated by spiriting someone away. There are also a number of cases where literal sprinting is meant, and any secrecy at the moment of escape is probably not there at all, though the idea of getting to safety (where you are not visible to your adversary and therefore in some sense secret) still is. And of course, many examples imply both speed and (almost) immediate invisibility.

Another place where “sprint” is imported is in the phrase “shin sprints” for “shin splints.” Lots of examples on the web. Presumably the bridge has something to do with “athletes training with sprints” and “athletes getting shin splints.”
