“Royal assent” is the acorn in this instance, with ‘ascent’ and even ‘accent’ supplying the eggcorns. Elevation above the commonality is an essential attribute of gods and, a little further down the scale, those mortals assumed to be especially favoured by them, and ascent being a far more familiar word than assent, some misinterpretation seems inevitable.
The UK becomes one of the first states to adopt GDPR into local law as the Data Protection Act 2018 gains Royal Ascent.
Welcome to the RBVIYC, the only yacht club in the region with Royal Ascent from Her Majesty.
The Corporate Insolvency and Governance Bill has now received Royal Ascent and is Law.
I came across this a day or two ago in accent guise, as if being given “Royal Accent” were, perhaps, the act of being ritually anointed with a slathering of strengled vowels from Her Highness the Queen’s own Queen’s English.
Specifically where is this rule printed in primary or secondary Legislation and been given royal accent , also are Cambridgeshire constabulary’s constables ..
An Act of Parliament is a statute law, which has been passed by the House of Commons and the House of Lords, also given Royal accent by the Crown.

I’m not sure that the noun “ascent” is more familiar than the noun “assent.” Historically, “assent” was more common.
Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

You’re right, but I am surprised. It may be that dusty volumes of legal argument lie behind it, but the same would surely hold true of descent/dissent and it doesn’t, so surprised I must remain.
(I do wish I could I knew how to do those clickable blue-word leaps to n-grams etc. Someday, perhaps . . .)

Generally assent and going up are positive things, whether or not Her Highness is involved. Is the verticality of nodding possibly in focus sometimes? Nod in ascent (in its various forms) garners thousands of hits. Years ago I found it occurring four times in the same piece of writing, so it was apparently standard for that author.
