playing on your mind

This was reported early on here as post #571. In looking at examples on the Internet I was struck by (1) a fair number coming from Asia, e.g.

The first fact may be relevant if r/l confusion is a factor, and the second obviously brings the ideas associated with play into prominence. Other eggcornish motivations may be active in just about any other context as well, of course: playing things out, or over and over, in your mind, playing tricks on your mind or your mind playing tricks on you, playing with ideas in your mind and other kinds of less purposeful mind play, etc. And it’s so nearly standard that preying on your mind may have no field of play in many people’s minds anymore.
