Venomently

I couldn’t let this one go. One of those situations where a colleague says it confidently – and I weep inwardly. It makes sense in its own way.

Re: Venomently

As of today, 247 hits for “venomently.” And most of them look authentic, but it’s hard to be sure that this isn’t a portmanteau word being passed rather consciously from hand to hand. I didn’t google “venoment,” but I’m sure there’re hits.

The combination of “venom” and “vehement” is precious. And heck, “vehement” can be tricky to spell for some people, so this is a practical solution. One of my personal faves of the last few months—nice find!

Re: Venomently

Pat: thanks for mentioning the notion of the portmanteau. These linguistic constructions are almost as much fun as eggcorns!
