The problem is when we heap blame on something as broad, diverse, and nebulous as the Church, and we resolve outsiders of any guilt in the matter of faith.
he was unwilling to completely resolve her of guilt
if he’s going to use pardon power to resolve him of any guilt then the Republicans will all vote to impeach to salvage what’s going to remain
Grk mythology seems to resolve her of any guilt, she is excused. She didn’t. know what she was doing, Aphrodite simply blinded her.
Prefixal malapropism is a better label for this than eggcorn, I reckon. Blending with phrases like removal of guilt, redressing of damage, and so forth is also likely to be involved. But it is certainly true that once a matter is resolved, or an accusation (or an implication or even a judgment) of guilt is resolved by absolution of the perpetrator, the issue is solved one way or another—you don’t have to worry about it any more.
