eco <> echo

There’s some fun to be had with the mixups of eco- and echo , and some may have eggcornish overtones (reflections, echoes, or other sorts of vibes).

Here in California, the government is destroying millions of acres of desert with wind farms and solar panels. Killing these echo systems will have profound effects on the global environment.

Production of biocidal nanotextiles is also reported in the literature, which can destroy the aquatic echo system when dumped into waters.

(Admirable comma placement: too many places do indeed offer garden-free parking. Is Echo-Lodge-y somehow involved in the Hotel?)

What are the advantages of case studies? Echologically valid: Case studies produce data that are a good reflection of real life.

Stroke, upper extremity, novel rehabilitation protocol, echologically valid training, musically supported rehabilitation. Myocardial infarction, hemorrhage .

Is echoing in the sense of resonating part of musically supporting rehabilitation? That would be echologically valid if it works, I suppose.
.
By at least one definition, “Ecological validity refers to the degree to which research study results are able to be generalized and applied to real life situations.” Or, you might say, the degree to which the study results echo the real life situations (or the situations echo the results)? To quote: They “produce data that are a good reflection [= echo?] of real life.”

If you don’t realize that echoing is actually part of the process, calling anything “eco-whatever” is likely to look appropriately techy and hip, I suppose. But of course simple omission of a (non-pronounced) letter while typing might also explain this sort of case.

Re: eco <> echo

I somehow left out ecolocation . Most hits seem to be intentional (puns or clever names), but not all. The first might well be a typo, but might also be an eggcorn by whoever (assuming it was not the author) wrote the title to the piece. (Interesting to use the word “art” to describe it: would a hawk’s vision or a dog’s sense of smell be described as one of its arts? The author used the words “feature” and “behavior” to describe it. I probably would think of “ability”.)

For toothed whales, ecolocation is an ancient art ¶ by Mary Caperton Morton Monday, July 21, 2014 ¶ The skull of the 28-million-year-old Cotylocara macei. Its anatomy and density variation indicate that this early toothed whale used echolocation to find its prey. Credit: James Carew and Mitchell Colgan. ¶ Echolocation is a distinctive feature of toothed whales, but little is known about how and when this complex behavior and its underlying anatomy evolved,

What is ecolocation A simple definition is that it’s the analysis by an animal of echoes of its own emitted sounds, by which it builds a
sound picture of its immediate environment.
