More mashing afoot, with enmashing suggesting a more intimate consolidation than the mere entanglement of enmeshed. Those cavorting vowels would usually run in the other direction, as is the case when sausages and pulverised potato are referred to, in upper class and related speech, as bengers and mesh.
A fuzzy area here, with mash/mush/marsh/must/mast/mass and mince; also mash/bash/crash/clash and ash. Ash? Fiery chemical mashing of carbon and oxygen perhaps.
