Spotted in some copy I was editing and caught before it appeared in print:

When I see “slaver(ing)” written I have a hard time not pronouncing it SLAY-ver in my mind rather than SLAV-ver, and pawing around in my brain for some connection with slavery. Could one refer to slavvery (= ±“spreading thickly”) if one pronounced it that way?
