Over 2000 hits. Seems like a misspelling driven by Americans’ voicing of intervocalic “t,” rather than an eggcorn – so it goes down here.
This one is all over the political blogs. “Abedding” terrorists might at first blush seem like a way of aiding them. On the other hand, a terrorist with a really busy social life might not be able to perpetrate as much terror. Examples:
The War on Terror has not only dwarfed the War on Drugs, it’s kind of sort of aiding and abedding the drug “bad guys”.
