I just spotted this in an Australian on-line review of the new remake of “King Kong”—a single sentence with two eggcorns:
“I felt seasick as the tramsteamer Venture pitched and rolled, leaving us stranded on the unchartered Skull Island, where we meet cannibalistic natives, giant insects and there’s a thrilling moment, when we are caught in the middle of a dinosaur stampede.”
Is the idea that the steamer travels back and forth on a regular route, like a tram (trolley)? This is, of course, the opposite of the true meaning of “tramp steamer”—a vessel that picks up casual cargoes here and there and has no fixed route.
“Unchartered” Skull Island is good, too.
