Came across the usage in a footwear discussion forum (“You will be surprised to know that Israeli women are ahead of the fashion curb…”) and then found more than 200 Google hits for this misunderstanding of “ahead of the curve.” BTW, “the curve” is misunderstood in other contexts as well—a “steep learning curve” is often used to indicate “difficult to learn,” when fact a steep curve indicates quick learning.
