I haven’t heard “rheumy eyes,” but it reminds me of rheumatism—and makes me wonder whether anyone would think it was “roomatism.” Although I see about 300 ghits for “roomatism” I think they are mainly eye dialect. I can’t seriously believe that any adult would associate a muscle affliction like rheumatism with rooms. Perhaps a child might think that “roomatism” comes from breathing the stale air of a confined space—such as a room. (I’d need a lot more convincing before declaring roomatism an eggcorn)...

If we had a prize for “Most Adorable Eggcorn” I think this would be the clear winner. Presumably “roomy eyes” are “eyes you can get lost in.” And as for the woman whose hair is “usually longer than her shoulders,” how long are her shoulders—usually? And wasn’t it A. E. Housman who wrote “Into my heart an ass that kills/from yon far country blows”?
