To be seeded into a tournament in, say, tennis or golf, is to be offered a place in a late round of the tournament based on one’s reputation or prior results; seeded players get to skip the preliminary or qualifying rounds. To be seated at a restaurant is also to be offered a place. The substitution seems fairly common. Examples:

Going the other way, we have “deep-seated” turning into “deep-seeded”. This could be an eggcorn because something “deep-seeded” could be interpreted as having “deep roots”.
