"and the like" becomes "and alike"

I see this all over the place. The Google search for “and alike” turns up 325,000 hits, though many of them seem to be correct.

Here is a particularly delightful example of this eggcorn:

I propose/request that all GU publications, documentation, minutes, proposals and alike be requested to be, and subsequently written in the same language, namely “The Queen’s English”; without the inappropriate addition of foreign words such as “color”, “hola”, ”-ize”, “favorite”, “supermarche”, “schwarzwaldkirschetorte” and alike.

Twice in one sentence! I certainly hope their motion was approved. We wouldn’t want anyone committing butchered English to GU’s permanent record.
