'untrampled' for 'untrammeled'

The words are close enough in meaning that substitution is common. Examples:

there was that sacred and untrampled freedom that, soon after the founding of
the colony of. Florence, was to be stolen by those vilest of thieves.

untrampled by the simple weight of day-to-day living in an imperfect world.

Re: 'untrampled' for 'untrammeled'

They are not close in meaning at all. ‘Untrammeled’ means ‘unconfined’ in the root sense of not being caught in a net or having your feet shackled together; by extension unconfined in the sense of being free to move unhindered, by further extension unconfined in the sense of being unfenced. ‘Untrampled’ means not having been stepped all over by heavy feet. But if we’re thinking about places (usually wild natural places) the ones that are untrammeled are also untrampled.
