Mass Bird KILLS (culls)

Whenever there is an outbreak of the bird flu in wild birds, policymakers sometimes enforce culls of domestic birds to prevent the spread of disease into the human food supply. The verb “to cull” means “to identify and remove the culls from,” (and the noun “cull” means “something rejected as being inferior or worthless.”) So, apparently, “inferior” birds are “removed” ...This largely understates the practice of decisively killing potentially infected birds—as policymakers are prone to disguise their more controversial policies with euphemistic words. Ironically, the euphemism “cull” is easily mistaken for the more controversial “kill,” and the practice becomes apparent to the public at large the minute the eggcorn emerges!
