Is this an eggcorn?

Has anyone else ever heard people use the term “major league” as an adverb?
Example: “Man, I messed that one up major league.”
I think it comes from “majorly” (also a kind of unusual adverb itself), but who knows – maybe this “major league” is a standard coinage I’d just never heard till recently.

Nice job! I really like that one! I think you make a pretty good case for “major league” being an eggcorn of “majorly.”

Although at least one dictionary classifies “majorly” as slang, I also find at least one dictionary that treats it as standard usage. Perhaps someone will check the OED for us later…

Re: Is this an eggcorn?

The OED hath spoken:

majorly, adv.
1. a. Greatly; to a major degree.
b. colloq. (orig. U.S.). As an intensifier, modifying an adjective: really, very.

But it definitely has no such entry, even colloquial, for “major league.” The closest one is this:
2. In extended use: of the highest rank; professional; serious, important, impressive.
1951 New Yorker 17 Nov. 71: Four pages of orchestration an hour..is considered major-league speed.

Re: Is this an eggcorn?

I always thought “major league” was intentional, sort of like saying “big time.” Not a minor league screwup, but a major league one.
