'litmust test' for 'litmus test'

Especially when ‘litmus test’ is used in its analogical political sense, it’s easy to hear an imperative where there isn’t one; a litmust test is a test that a candidate must pass to get a judicial appointment. 500+ ghits, e.g.,

Colmes ended the segment saying that conservatives have a litmust test, and maybe the president does, too.

BTW, Sen Kennedy pointed out how conservatives have their litmust test and used
it to rule out Miers.

I agree with such a concept, but I do not believe that property ownership is the
litmust test we need.

And now we know what that litmust test is: The categorical overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Some activists put their personal Litmust tests on candidates without understanding that VA is NOT California.
