"vernacular railway" for "funicular railway"

funicular railway – 142,000 ghits
vernacular railway – 118 ghits

‘Funicular’ is an unusual word, coming from the Latin for a ‘little rope’. The little rope usually pulls a carriage up and down an inclined plane, and buildings in the kind of places that have funicular railways might well be described as ‘vernacular architecture’ – native to an area, local, commonplace etc. A quaint carriage being winched up slowly by a cable endorses the faint sense of inferiority that ‘vernacular’ possesses.

Looks like an MSWord-ism. I did complain to Microsoft that they should offer a more refined version of their software that would weed such “corrections” out, but I was rebuffed. Anyone else out there have the ability to write an addon program? A
