Eggcorn or just plain stupid?

The headline in the local paper read “All for Not?” which led me to believe that the author had committed a malapropism. However, after I e-mailed him, I learned that he “meant to do it” and that it was a play on words. Really? Naught!

Re: Eggcorn or just plain stupid?

Welcome to the Eggcorn website. The phrase you mentioned is present in the Eggcorn Database (...browse down to “naught/not”). But I’ll add a few other comments here…
Apparently the editor used the phrase intentionally, and it is thereby classified as a pun. Had the editor been unaware of his mistake, then it would be an eggcorn because the new usage makes sense in context. If the misused word were to make no sense at all in the new context, then the mistake would be a malapropism. (Just in case you were wondering!)
