Some usage is word play, and it is also used to denote rumours, whispers in financial markets etc, and there could be a certain number of typos, but there does seem to be some genuine eggcornish usage too. I’m having difficulty with the imagery though – if an instinctive response is somehow moderated by some sensory communication then surely its no longer instinctive? I’m beginning to suspect it may all be down to mis-spelling of ‘herd’...
